This is an antique Japanese Edo period (c.1596-1868) tsuba (handguard) for a samurai’s Katana or Wakazashi.
This is a special Tsuba, its a rare quality piece prized by collectors with a significant amount of gold inlay. It appears to have never been fitted to a blade. A beautiful example of Edo Era craftsmanship.
A beautiful example of samurai craftsmanship. It measures about 2 1/2" (6.5 cm) by 3 1/4" (7.5 cm) wide and 1/8" (.4cm) thick. Having been lovingly and carefully displayed by 3 generations of collectors, it remains in fine condition. Comes in copper dragon frame custom built for tsuba display.
